If you were to ask fertility experts what can make the most difference to IVF success, the answer would often be simple: a healthy egg and sperm. This is why so much emphasis is placed on nutrition in the months leading up to an IVF cycle—it’s the key to enhancing the quality of the “raw materials” that will ultimately become your baby.
While medications stimulate follicle maturation and ovulation, the quality of your eggs and your partner’s sperm depends entirely on the nutrients available during their development. Contrary to popular belief, egg maturation doesn’t begin with each menstrual cycle. Instead, the process starts about 90-120 days before ovulation, as each developing egg is nourished within the follicle. When the time comes, approximately 6-10 follicles will begin growing in response to reproductive hormones. Although only one egg will dominate in a natural cycle, scientists are still studying what factors lead the body to select that specific egg. Focusing on your nutrition and lifestyle during this time gives these eggs the best possible environment, which could lead to a higher-quality embryo and a better chance of IVF success.
What to Expect During Your Consultation
Before our consultation, you’ll complete a detailed health questionnaire. This helps us gather information about your medical history and any underlying health conditions affecting your fertility.
We’ll cover aspects of your health from childhood to the present, focusing on your gynecological and obstetric history (or male fertility history for men), daily diet, current medications, and any supplements you may be taking. We may also discuss past stressors or trauma if they could have impacted your health.
Within five working days, you’ll receive an individualized report with a protocol tailored specifically for the lead-up to your fertility treatment. If lab tests or specific supplements are needed, you’ll also receive a referral letter for any additional tests. Please note, that tests and supplements are billed separately from the consultation fee.
